Karl May Museum
The Karl May Museum displays – apart from the reception room, a study and a library – one of Europe's outstanding collection of attractive museum items from the life and culture of the American First Nation.
With the help of their members, friends and supporters, it was possible to finish the delicate restoration of a birch canoe of Ojibwa's, which after 16 years of absence represents one of the museum's attractions. At the same time, an archive library on the subject of North America's Red Indians is being prepared and books are being collected which deal predominantly with ethnographic themes from the Karl May Museum collection, their cultural and historical background, and the necessary basic scientific facts.
No less famous than Karl May's western heroes Winnetou and Old Shatterhand are their legendary rifles, on permanent display at the Karl May Museum: the "Silver Nails Rifle", the weighty "Bear Killer" and the "Henry Short Rifle". The exhibition was first opened in 1985. Ever since early 1995, upon its complete restoration, the museum has also harboured Karl May's original STUDY, his LIBRARY, and his RECEPTION ROOM, all reflecting the atmosphere of pre-war times. Restored to their historic condition, the original furnishings from the LIBRARY, the STUDY and the RECEPTION ROOM are shown in the VILLA "SHATTERHAND".
