Wading in the Elbe River in Saxony

The Elbe River has become a favoured place for sailors, paddlers and motorship-skippers. Particularly, the numerous watersport clubs make their equipment available to interested people. The water tourism infrastructure is currently being developed but it will be completed in the upcoming years.

The source of the Elbe River is located in the mountain range "Riesengebirge". After 364 kilometres, the Elbe River reaches Saxony. From thereon the counting of kilometres starts with cero.

The river transits the national park of Saxon Switzerland where the well-known cities of Bad Schandau, Koenigstein, Rathen and Wehlen are situated.

The Elbe River then reaches Pirna and Dresden, places where people can marvel at the historic surroundings with their world-famous monuments.

Passing the vineyards of Dresden and Radebeul, you will arrive at the city of Meissen with its impressive cathedral and "Albrechtsburg" and its Meissen Porcelain manufacturing.

When the river transits Diesbar-Seusslitz, it leaves the wine-growing district and enters the lowlands of Riesa and Torgau.
