Along the Elbe-River Cycling Path
The Elbe-River Cycling Path, which is 260 kilometres long, between Dresden and Dessau, offers you the unique chance to experience various landscapes, each as picturesque and charming as the other.
If you start your journey in Swiss Saxony, you will notice the region's splendid and bizarre rock formations. Cycling downriver you will pass by the beautiful old town of Pirna, and on your way to Dresden you will notice many impressive castles. Leaving the skyline of the Saxon capital, which made the painter Canaletto very famous through his paintings, vineyards will welcome you to Radebeul, Meissen and many more wine-growing villages in that region. region. Towards the city of Riesa, the Elbe Valley widens and gives you a superb view of the pastures and fields of the fertile Elbe meadows.
The area from the town of Strehla up to the historic town of Torgau is extremely peaceful and quiet with the river Elbe meandering through the countryside. Passing by the national reserve "Dübener Heide", you will eventually find your way to the cities of Lutherstadt Wittenberg and Bauhausstadt Dessau.
The first-class construction of the Elbe Bicycle Path is suitable for anyone – regardless of whether you are a young adult, senior citizen, individualist or member of a travelling group.
As approximately 90 per cent of the cycling path are off the main roads, cyclists can enjoy their trip along the river Elbe without being held up by traffic. The path's surface is in an excellent condition; only a few sections are slightly damaged or temporarily under construction. Nearly everywhere, the Elbe-River Cycling Path is indicated by the blue logo.
