The Demonstration Hall

In the demonstration workshops you will discover four different workplaces where Meissen porcelain® is hand designed.
Your tour will begin with a short film about the history of the manufactory, the raw materials used and the manufacturing process itself. In the next four rooms you will see for yourself exactly how Meissen porcelain is created by hand.

At the workplace of the throwers and modellers, you will see how shapely cups are modelled and formed. It is at the “repairer's” workplace where the individual figurine parts are assembled. Here, the model figure can be seen on which the repairer's work is based.

You will then be shown the famous onion pattern as an example of underglaze design. Your tour will end at the workplace of those who put the final outer decorations on the Meissen porcelain. The painting of flowers and oriental motifs will serve as examples of this varied and skilled technique where an array of nuances and colour are used.

An audio commentary is available in 14 languages for this tour of the workshops and it is also possible to arrange a guided tour.
