Cities in the Elbe region
Delicious grapes ripen on steep mountain slopes above the second-largest river in Germany, the Elbe, along Saxony's Wine Route – one of Germany`s smallest wine-growing regions.
Guests can also enjoy the trail during a journey on a side-wheel steamboat, discover the vineyard terraces in Pirna, in Pillnitz and below Dresden´s Elbe castles. The city of Meissen, once the residence of Saxon kings, has risen to world-wide fame as a result of its delicate art of porcelain manufacture. Torgau, at the northern tip of the region, is closely associated with the name of Martin Luther and is therefore the Reformation City. And most people have heard about the legendary adventure author Karl May. At the Indian Museum in Radebeul, his life and work are impressively exhibited at Villa Bärenfett.
The romantic banks of the river Elbe are perfect for long cycle tours along the Elbe-River Cycling Path through the delightful countryside in the Elbe Valley. The Elbe-River Cycling Path is the longest cycling path of Germany, measuring 860 kilometers.
The guests of the region can get to know a unique region with numerous historical towns, impressive sights, breathtaking landscapes and the typical regional cuisine connected with the Saxon hospitality.
