Coswig - young city on the verge of Dresden
Geographical Situation
Coswig is situated on the right-hand side of the Elbe Valley between Dresden – the capital of Saxony – and the district town of Meissen. The railway lines, which both run through the city, connect Dresden with Leipzig and Berlin.
Historical Attractions
Some historical attractions which are offered by Coswig are, for example, the gothic "Old Church" where reconstruction is ongoing, the Village Church in Brockwitz with its baroque paintings, the "Karrasburg Museum Coswig" where people can get permanent information about the history of the town, and the Restaurant "Talkenberger Hof" where the first vineyard of Coswig was founded in 1607.
Culture and Arts
Changing art exhibitions, theatre performances and other events can be enjoyed in the "BÖRSE" (the culture centre of Coswig). You may also visit the studio of an old craft – to find out what Original Saxon Blue Print means. Experience special printings and a little exhibition with explanations!
Walking and Biking
Coswig and its surroundings are ideal for walking and biking.
The forest reserve of Friedewald offers various opportunities to experience the nature of the area. Between 1990 and 1993, three walking trails were laid to lead visitors through the beautiful landscape. On these routes, information boards tell of the history, geography and biology of the area.
Between Sörnewitz and Meissen is the "Bosel", an imposing rock and vantage point, 182 metres high, giving good views of the valley. There is also a botanical garden on top of the "Bosel".
The Elbe-river cycling path offers 7.5 kilometres for biking in Coswig. It is also possible to cycle through the whole of Saxony – the path streches from Schmilka to Torgau along the river.
