Strehla – city with special charm

In the midst of the idyllic landscape, Strehla kept its special charm – it is a farming community. Not only agriculture but also trade put Strehla back on the map – especially the potter’s craft was known throughout the region and beyond.

In 1565, the 24-year-old potter Melchior Tatzen created a pulpit out of stone for Strehla’s church. To this very day you can admire this unique and unusual masterwork.

Typically, Strehla is the legandary "Nixstein" (rock of mermaid). There you can look for the mermaids, who pulled their victims into the river Elbe.

Trips in the superb landscape, bicycle tours through the almost untouched region or a walking tour through the nearby Dahlener Heide will amuse you a lot.

For families, Strehla offers nice options: there is a great "nibble trail" with strawberries, gooseberries, raspberries and so on in the city. Moreover, children can spend adventurous hours in the park with a zoo for small animals. Also, the swimming areas and the adjoining camping ground are great places to relax.
