A rarity: wine from Saxony

Welcome to Saxony’s Wine Route, in one of the smallest wine districts.

For more than 800 years wines have been produced in this area. Wine is very strongly integrated into the history here, like in no other part of Germany. There are vines in close proximity to the Semper Opera, based on the beautiful Elbe castles in Dresden and seen as decoration on the china.

Only 0.2 per cent of all German wine comes from Saxony. It is for this reason that not all wine experts know about Saxony’s wine.

In the Elbe Valley, the protection of the surrounding slopes creates a special sub-climate. The vines find ideal growing conditions on the southward leaning slopes. Not just the climate, with its frequently hot, dry summers, but also the character of the soil lends the wine its Saxon flair. In Saxony, magnificent wines grow in loamy loess.
