A rarity: wine from Saxony
Welcome to the Saxon wine region, to one of the smallest wine districts in Germany. For more than 850 years vines have been cultivated in this area. Therefore wine has always been an important part of the Saxon Elblands history and it still remains an essential element of the local culture until today.
Only 0.2 per cent of German wines originate in Saxony. This is the reason for Saxon wine being such a rarity and it is probably the best argument to visit the region and discover the precious drop right at its source.
In the Elbe Valley, the protection of the surrounding slopes creates a special sub-climate. The vines find ideal growing conditions on the southward leaning slopes. Hot and dry summers in combination with loamy loess, granite und sandstone soils give the Saxon wine its special character. As a result, wines “made in Saxony” are mostly dry and young white wines with a mild acid.
